Four translations

A four-part temporary painting on the windows of ras de terra, using local red-orange soil. The gestural abstractions for the windows emerged from a process of drawing, merging landscape observations and transcribed marks.

The motifs blend together movements of river waters – especially the circular 'cauldrons' carved out by the gargantas – with the growth of vines and spring shoots, and collaborative mark-making with my companions, as well as the handwriting of Spanish metalworkers preserved in the fabric of the building.

The painted earth changed colour with the light, and cast shadows that mixed with those of the fig trees outside, interacting with the works installed on the gallery walls. Until it was time to wash away the painted marks and leave.
