“Much of Aileen Harvey’s current body of work continues from the series Cifras, Four translations, and Ausencias, produced over the course of residencies in Spain in 2023 and 2024. These painterly projects utilise earth pigments crafted from local soils and organic matter, painting on nonconventional materials from found wood to windows. Gestural images drawn from lost items, landscapes, and water patterns emerge from swirls and stains of textural surfaces; some appear as though through the coalescence of natural forces, others through the removal rather than application of pigment, forming semi-abstracted shapes that nod to the complex relationships between places, people, and the transformations of chance.”
