Aileen
Harvey is an artist from London. Her work considers
human relationships to place, through attention to the materials,
processes and phenomena of landscapes. Working in a semi-figurative,
materially expressive way, she combines drawing and painting with
sculpture and photography, exploring the boundaries between these
categories. Her work engages with light, loss, transformations and
the shapes of time. The making process is open to chance and
between-states, echoing geology, weather or growth. Playful,
experimental aspects of her practice are directed towards an idea of
dialogue with place.
Aileen studied philosophy (Edinburgh; Cambridge) and then sculpture (Wimbledon), and her writing ranges across these disciplines. Her art research has been published as book chapters (in Northern Light 2018; Proximity and Distance 2020; Disturbed Ecologies 2023) and in online journals (NANO 2014; Mediapolis 2023).
Solo exhibitions include: blind alley projects, USA (2022); One-to-Ten Gallery, UK (2022); An Lanntair, UK (2011).
Group exhibitions include: Pictorem Gallery, UK (2024); ras de terra, Spain (2024); Galerie Plato, Portugal (2023); Bruton Museum, UK (2021); La Ruine, Switzerland (2020); Yorkshire Artspace, UK (2018); Standpoint Gallery, UK (2016); Leach Pottery, UK (2015); Airspace Gallery, UK (2014); Customs House Gallery, UK (2013); Karussell, Switzerland (2013); The Photographers' Gallery, UK (2009).
